A broad knowledge-base in geophysics and related disciplines and an ability to understand integrate and extend it so that all fundamental geophysical concepts are accessible;
1. Knowledge of the structure and composition of the solid Earth; understanding of processes within it.
2. Knowledge of the nomenclature different physical processes of the earth (EGP 312) and understanding of how this knowledge may be applied to resolve geophysical problems.
3. Knowledge of the fundamentals of physics and mathematics to the levels needed for a real understanding of these geophysical earth processes (with these levels varying according to choices of more generalist or more specialist courses).
4. Profound knowledge and understanding making intelligible Earth Science research frontiers in selected areas.
Moreover, the program will help in increasing the number of highly nationals highly qualified specialists able to:
1. Use of different geophysical methods and techniques for subsurface exploration for natural resources and able to solve the engineering and environmental problems, which are related to the site locations.
2. Manage of geophysical observatories, which are concerned with recording of the seismological events and variations of earth magnetic and gravitational fields as well as monitoring of the radiometric and geothermometric changes under the earth surface.
3. Share in social development through the exploration & geotechnical studies, which are required to development projects in various fields such as engineering, water resources and environmental.
4. Share in development of the scientific public opinions through organizing meetings & workshops to make them aware of the dangers of the natural geological hazards like earthquakes and earth sinking, and the source of radiations, etc.
5. Cooperate with different scientific authorities like research centers at King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology, Saudi Geological Survey and Water Research Center, as well as the centers which are funding the scientific researches to conduct research programs and projects which are recommended for the development of the Kingdom.
6. Build up department staff able to carry out principal and applied research studies, analyze number of environmental and scientific problems and introduce the suitable solutions for them.
In addition, the student will have an informed view of interactions between Geophysics, and human existence and sustainability centered on
- Natural resources, their exploration, development and issues related to their exploitation.
